30 for 30, Where It All Begins.....

So today marks 50 weeks until I turn 30. Breathe in, breathe out. It is my scary age. So many things to accomplish. On the other hand, I have already accomplished so much. Decided to start this blog to document my journey fullspeed and headfirst into my thirties!

So one of the things at the top of my list of things I need to do before I'm thirty is to drop a few kilos...36 of them to be exact. I have lost weight in the past and I have sampled just about every kind of weight loss fad, group, program, magic spell, on the face of this earth but the one major one left I haven't tried is Jenny Craig. I just cringe when I think about it for some reason, probably related to repressed childhood memories. I also hate when people refer to the Jenny Craig program to just 'Jenny' as if she's a mate. Anyway, out of curiosity and because I saw that they are offering half price memberships I decided to go in and find out what all the fuss is all about. So I get a call today from the Jenny Craig call centre from an EXTREMELY PERKY lady. She sounded a little manic, and anyone who knows me, knows I am completely deadpan in the face of perkiness. So, it was a little awkward and went something like this:
Perky Lady: "So, how much weight would you like to lose with Jenny."

Me: *fucksake she just said Jenny* "Um, about 30kilos."

Perky Lady: "Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic. Is there any particular reason, or special event you are wanting to lose the weight for?"

Me: *Bitch, I want to lose weight because I'm heavy!* "Um, I turn 30 next year?"

Perky Lady gets all over excited and lands somewhere between sounding like Oprah giving away cars and a screaming goat: "THIRRRRRRRRTY FOR THIRRRRRRRTY!!!"

Me: *Bitch sounds hilarious, but I love this idea secretly.*

So anyway, after getting off the phone to Perky McPerk, I went into my local Jenny Craig and had the first appointment dealio. All sounds quite sweet. I hated all the questions about my weight though. I know weightloss companies want to take a holistic approach and focus not only on food, but the reasons why we eat, but if I wanted to talk about feelings, I would go to therapy. Anyway, after lots of questions like "why do you think you put on the weight?" "what is different this time?" "how did it feel when you were close to your goal weight?" I was able to get to the nitty gritty details of how it all works, cost etc.

It all sounds as I expected, I listened to the hard sell, and despite being quite expensive I have decided to sign up and my start date is the 26th of August...the day after I get back from Bali.  I figure I just really don't have anything to lose (well, except for the weight) and I am lazy and like the idea of all the work being done for me in terms of prep etc. I just rock up once a week, get weighed, pick up the next weeks food and I am good to go. Lets hope it works out! I wonder if we can take bets that if I stick with it, I will turn into one of those crazy people who refers to Jenny Craig as Jenny.

THIIIIRRTYYY FOR THIIIIRRRRRRTYYYYYYYYYYY!
